Program Overview

The undergraduate certificate in environmental studies, sustainability, and resilience offers students in any major a means of enhancing their curriculum with environmental, sustainability, and resilience content. The certificate is multidisciplinary in that it requires students to complete classes in several disciplines. The program is open to students in any major, but it is especially relevant for those seeking environmentally related careers in education, government, business, law, and consulting firms.

Opportunities Upon Graduation

The environmental studies, sustainability, and resilience certificate is a credential that enhances the degree of students in any major. The addition of this credential will contribute to a student’s competitiveness in the job market and it highlights the student’s multi-disciplinary foundation to address complex environmental challenges that require expertise across the natural, physical, and social sciences.

Certificate Hours Requirement


The Environmental Studies, Sustainability, and Resilience certificate requires a minimum of 18 hours.

Complete one course from each of the following categories. Students cannot take more than two courses from the same department to fulfill the ecology; policy, politics, and regulation; natural and physical science; and social sciences and humanities components.
