Program Overview

The Accelerated Graduate Pathway: Civil Engineering program provides outstanding students the opportunitity to earn a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering while completing some courses towards a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE). Students may complete up to 15 hours of graduate coursework to count towards their MSCE degree. In addition, up to 9 hours of these graduate courses will count towards fulfilling undergraduate degree requirements. Students are eligible for the AGP program, if they have an overall GPA higher than 3.2 (or a GPA higher than 3.0 with a 3.5 in the most recent 30 hours) and have completed CE 3300 , CE 3400 , CE 3610 , and CE 3700 .

Admissions Information

Students will be eligible to apply when they have earned 60 credit hours; students will be eligible to enroll in courses when they have completed 75 credit hours.

Application is limited to students who:

  1. Are in the Civil Engineering (B.S.C.E.)  (BS7252)
  2. Have completed CE 3300 , CE 3400 , CE 3610 , and CE 3700  with a C (2.0) or better in each course, and
  3. Have a cumulative GPA higher than 3.2 (or a GPA higher than 3.0 with a 3.5 in the most recent 30 hours completed).

Opportunities Upon Graduation

The Accelerated Graduate Pathway (AGP) program is intended to allow students to take courses towards a graduate degree while enrolled as an undergraduate student. As such, students are expected to pursue graduate coursework upon completion of their undergraduate degree.

Requirements

Students may complete up to 15 hours of graduate-level coursework under the AGP. Of these courses, up to nine hours can apply to the undergraduate degree requirements.

The following graduate level courses may be completed as part of the AGP before conferral of the bachelor’s degree:

  • CE 5160 - Construction Estimating & Equipment
  • CE 5170 - Construction Planning & Scheduling
  • CE 5190 - Project Development, Contracts & Law
  • CE 5200 - Finite Element Methods
  • CE 5350 - Advanced Steel Design
  • CE 5360 - Advanced Reinforced Concrete
  • CE 5370 - Timber Design (3 design credits)
  • CE 5372 - Masonry Design (3 design credits)
  • CE 5380 - Pre-stressed Concrete Design (3 design credits)
  • CE 5390 - Computer-aided Structural Design
  • CE 5430 - Open Channel Hydraulics
  • CE 5510 - In-situ Remediation
  • CE 5530 - Solid & Hazardous Waste Management (2 design credits)
  • CE 5540 - Sustainable Construction (1 design credit)
  • CE 5570 - Water Resources Engineering (3 design credits)
  • CE 5580 - Water Quality Engineering
  • CE 5630 - Highway Safety & Risk Management
  • CE 5640 - Transportation Planning Fundamentals (1 design credit)
  • CE 5680 - Traffic Signal Systems (3 design credits)
  • CE 5720 - Advanced Soil Mechanics
  • CE 5750 - Advanced Foundation Engineering
  • CE 5760 - Soil Stabilization
  • CE 5770 - Rock Mechanics & Design (3 design credits)
  • CE 5820 - Paving Materials & Mixtures
  • CE 5830 - Principles of Pavement Design (3 design credits)

Up to three of the above courses will count as CE Electives toward the requirements of the BSCE program. Note: Students are required to accumulate at least three design credits while taking the listed graduate level courses.
