POLS 4520 - International Peace This course addresses the puzzle of peace in the international system and investigates the ethical, political, social, cultural, and economic dimensions of global security. Students learn about changes in global security systems, various theories and practices related to peace and security, and ethical challenges that arise in the internationally coordinated pursuit of peace. The course focuses on threats from both states and nonstate actors, including violent extremism, terrorism, and sexual and gender-based violence, as well as the relationship between those who intervene and are intervened upon and the role of justice in the establishment of political order.
Requisites: 6 hours in POLS or (Jr or Sr). Credit Hours: 3 OHIO BRICKS: Bridge: Ethics and Reasoning, Capstone: Capstone or Culminating Experience Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

- Conduct independent research into a specific case, and apply theories of conflict management and peace to it.
- Define key terms and concepts relating to conflict management and international peace.
- Describe and explain select cases involving attempts to promote peace and manage international conflict.
- Develop the ability to write clearly about your analysis of that case and the theoretical approaches best suited to it.
