PSY 3110 - Advanced Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences


This course is an introduction to multiple regression analyses, including the representation of categorical predictors and the exploration of higher-order effects, including interactions. Does not apply to Arts and Sciences social sciences or natural sciences requirement.

Requisites: PSY 101D or 1010 and 2120
Credit Hours: 4
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to conduct and interpret regression analyses using statistical software.
  • Students will be able to summarize and report statistical results using American Psychological Association style.
  • Students will be able to explain how methodological decisions affect the power of a regression analysis.
  • Students will be able to explain the key elements of any regression analysis, including how parameters are estimated, how parameters and models are tested, how association between predictors and criterion is measured.
  • Students will be able to use and interpret categorical predictors in a regression model.
  • Students will be able to identify problems with a regression model.
  • Students will be able to implement and interpret higher-order terms, including interactions, in regression analyses.
  • Students will be able to interpret regression analyses reported in the scientific literature.
