POLS 3210 - Professional and Civic Engagement in Political Science This course addresses the roles of political institutions and civic organizations in maintaining a democracy. It presents political controversies over election procedures and claims of voter fraud. It offers a first-hand experience of those election procedures through a community engagement project. This course offers career exploration in politics and government.
Requisites: 6 Hours in POLS Credit Hours: 3 OHIO BRICKS: Bridge: Learning and Doing Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 seminar Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to use their experiences and their academic knowledge to organize a public awareness campaign for a non-profit or government agency.
- Students will be able to see and make connections between academic studies of civic participation and the work of civic organizations.
- Students will be able to adapt and apply theories of the role of civic organizations in democracy to the work of civic organizations.
- Students will be able to explain election procedures to the public in written and oral communication in ways that enhance meaning.
- Students will be able to demonstrate a developing sense of self as a learner through pre-reflection and post-reflection when developing and implementing projects for non-profit organizations.
